Description

The 1913 (S) Indian Head Eagle is a Gold Eagle produced at the San Francisco Mint as part of the Indian Head Eagles 1907-1933 series. With a mintage of 66,000, this is a scarce issue — the scarcer of two mint variants, with 13% of total production. The obverse features a Native American wearing a feathered war bonnet, facing left and the reverse displays a standing eagle with the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM and IN GOD WE TRUST. Philadelphia and San Francisco struck eagles. The 1913-S is a scarcer San Francisco date. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Estimated market value ranges from $2.7K to $27K depending on grade and condition. Struck in 90% gold, 10% copper, weighing 16.7 grams, 26.8 mm in diameter, with a raised stars edge. Cataloged as PCGS #8874.
