John Flanagan's portrait of George Washington, originally intended as a one-year commemorative for Washington's bicentennial but adopted as the permanent design. The 1932-D and 1932-S are key dates from the series' first year. These 90% silver quarters were produced through 1964, the last year of silver coinage for general circulation.
