1944 Washington Quarter - Atypical Die Clash ADC-25c-1944-01

Description

ADC-25c-1944-01 is an atypical die clash on a 1944 Washington quarter, cataloged by Mad Die Clashes. A single strong clash marked both dies, and neither was abraded. On the obverse die, parts of the eagle's wing are clashed ahead of Washington's nose and lips and behind his head; these marks are fairly light. The reverse die carries a much stronger outline of Washington's bust. MDC explains the difference by the reverse die's shallower incused design: when the dies clash, the obverse die bottoms out on the reverse sooner than the reverse does on the obverse, so the reverse shows the stronger clash.
