Description
The 1954 Washington quarter was struck during the 1950s, a period of economic expansion and suburban growth that fueled demand for circulating coinage. The series continued with Flanagan's original design, now well into its second decade of production, featuring Washington's Houdon bust obverse and heraldic eagle reverse. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this issue is identified by the S mint mark on the reverse beneath the eagle's tail feathers. The coin is composed of 90% silver and 10% copper, weighing 6.25 grams with a diameter of 24.3mm and a reeded edge.
Rarity Notes
Mintage of 11,834,722 pieces. Common in circulated grades. Uncirculated examples are available but high-grade gems are scarcer due to bag marks and handling during the silver era.
