About This Coin

The 1943 Washington Quarter is a United States quarter from the Washington Silver Quarters 1932-1964 series. The obverse features George Washington facing left, based on a 1786 bust by Jean-Antoine Houdon, while the reverse displays an eagle perched on a bundle of arrows with olive branches below. Designed by John Flanagan. Struck in 90% silver, 10% copper, weighing 6.3 grams, 24.3 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Produced at the Denver, Philadelphia, and San Francisco Mints. The Washington Quarter was introduced in 1932 to commemorate the 200th anniversary of George Washington's birth. Originally intended as a one-year commemorative, the design proved so popular it became a permanent circulating coin. The 1932-D and 1932-S are key dates with low mintages. Silver Washington Quarters (1932-1964) are popular with both collectors and silver stackers.
