Description
The 1960 Washington quarter was produced during the final years of silver coinage in the United States. Rising silver prices and industrial demand for the metal were already creating supply pressures that would ultimately lead to the Coinage Act of 1965, ending the 90% silver composition for circulating quarters. This issue carries Flanagan's classic design with Washington's obverse portrait and the eagle reverse. Struck at the Denver Mint, this issue is identified by the D mint mark on the reverse beneath the eagle's tail feathers. The coin is composed of 90% silver and 10% copper, weighing 6.25 grams with a diameter of 24.3mm and a reeded edge.
Rarity Notes
High mintage of 63,000,324 pieces. Readily available in circulated and lower uncirculated grades. Well-struck gems with full luster remain desirable despite the large production run.
