1870 Dollar Patterns

About This Coin

The 1870 Dollar Patterns page groups the dollar-size pieces dated 1870 in the Standard Silver Patterns (1870) series, all struck at the Philadelphia Mint. William Barber's seated Liberty appears with a STANDARD 1 DOLLAR wreath reverse (J-996 to J-1001) and with the regular reverse (J-1002 to J-1007), and Longacre's seated Indian princess with the same two reverses (J-1008 to J-1019). J-1020 to J-1022 come from the regular silver dollar dies and J-1023 to J-1025 from the regular gold dollar dies. Q. David Bowers notes that the Standard Silver plan was not meant to include a dollar.
