The 1870 Proof Dollar Pattern - J-1021 is a proof dollar pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Standard Silver Patterns (1870) series. It was struck from the regular 1870 silver dollar dies. USPatterns.com regards the 1870 off-metal strikings from regular dies as pieces made for sale to collectors in complete sets, cent through double eagle, rather than true die trials. Two aluminum examples are confirmed. It is struck in aluminum with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-8. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1156 and Adams-Woodin 848 and 880. Cataloged as PCGS #61269.
