The 1870 Double Eagle Patterns is a United States Gold Double Eagle from the Standard Silver Patterns (1870) series. Produced at the Philadelphia Mint. The obverse features experimental designs for a proposed "Standard Silver Dollar" of reduced weight and the reverse displays various experimental designs. A notable auction result reached $46K in PR64 grade at Heritage Auctions. Designed by William Barber.
