Description

Completing the STANDARD wreath reverse group with a plain-edge aluminum striking, J-1001 pairs the Seated Liberty obverse with the denomination-and-STANDARD reverse in the lightest available metal. The plain edge on an aluminum dollar would have made the piece feel even more insubstantial than its reeded-edge sibling J-1000, since reeding adds a tactile dimension that partially compensates for low weight. This six-variety group of J-996 through J-1001 systematically covers three metals and two edge treatments, documenting every practical combination for a single die pairing.

Rarity Notes

R-8. Very rare to unique, estimated 2-3 examples survive.
