Description
The plain-edge silver counterpart to J-1002, this dollar pattern carries the Seated Liberty obverse and regular eagle reverse without edge reeding. By pairing the standard production reverse with a plain edge, Barber created a piece that would look identical to a regular Seated Liberty dollar from either face but feel distinctly different in the hand. Such subtle variations tested whether edge treatment alone would provide sufficient differentiation between the standard silver and regular silver compositions should both circulate simultaneously.
