About This Coin

The 1870 Half Dollar Patterns page groups the half dollar pieces dated 1870 in the Standard Silver Patterns (1870) series, all struck at the Philadelphia Mint. William Barber's new seated Liberty appears with a STANDARD wreath reverse (J-927 to J-932, and J-927a to J-930a) and with the regular eagle reverse (J-933 to J-938). The Standard Silver heads, a cap with two stars from several dies, a tiara and a band with one star, appear with the new 1870 reverse (J-939 to J-962) and with the 1869 reverse (J-963 to J-992). J-993 to J-995a come from the regular dies.
