Description

Closing the Liberty Head with eagle reverse group, J-1019 is a plain-edge aluminum striking that represents one of the rarest dollar patterns in the 1870 Standard Silver series. The convergence of aluminum composition and plain edge places this piece among the least-produced varieties in the entire program, as the Mint evidently saw diminishing returns in creating plain-edge versions of every aluminum die combination. Very few specimens survive, making J-1019 a significant gap-filler for advanced pattern collections seeking completeness within the 1870 dollar subseries.

Rarity Notes

R-8. Very rare to unique, approximately 2-3 examples known.
