Description
The 1870 Proof Gold Dollar Pattern - J-1023 is a proof gold dollar pattern struck at the Philadelphia Mint, part of the Standard Silver Patterns (1870) series. It was struck from the regular 1870 gold dollar dies. USPatterns.com regards the 1870 off-metal strikings from regular dies as pieces made for sale to collectors in complete sets, cent through double eagle, rather than true die trials. As many as seven copper examples may be different coins. It is struck in copper with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-7. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1158 and Adams-Woodin 844. Cataloged as PCGS #61271.
