Description

Departing from the Seated Liberty motif, J-1008 introduces a Liberty Head obverse to the dollar denomination, paired with the STANDARD wreath reverse carrying ONE DOLLAR within an agricultural wreath. Struck in silver with a reeded edge, this pattern documents Barber's exploration of alternative portrait styles for the dollar at a time when the Seated Liberty design had been in use for over three decades. The Liberty Head approach, featuring a forward-facing bust with flowing hair and a coronet inscribed LIBERTY, offered a more intimate, portrait-like rendering than the full-figure Seated Liberty composition.
