Description
Closing the eagle-reverse dollar group with a plain-edge aluminum striking, J-1007 represents one of the scarcest compositions in the dollar subseries. The absence of reeding on this aluminum pattern would have left the edge smooth and featureless, providing no tactile cue to distinguish it from aluminum patterns of other denominations without examining the faces. Aluminum's resistance to tarnishing means surviving examples typically retain much of their original surface character, unlike copper and silver strikings that develop patina over time. This piece concludes the twelve-variety Seated Liberty dollar section of the Standard Silver program.
