Description
Struck in copper with a reeded edge, this Liberty Head obverse with eagle reverse dollar pattern is among the more frequently encountered varieties in the J-1014 through J-1019 group. Copper impressions of dollar patterns enjoyed particular popularity with nineteenth-century collectors, who prized them both for their relative affordability compared to silver strikings and for the rich toning that copper develops over time. The eagle reverse translates particularly well into copper, where the metal's responsiveness to fine detail produces sharply defined feathers and talons.
