Description

Pairing the Seated Liberty obverse with raised LIBERTY and STANDARD wreath reverse on a copper planchet with a plain edge, J-930 presents the first design group in its most medallic copper expression. The absence of edge reeding allows the design to extend to the very rim without visual interruption, lending a formal, medallion-like quality that contemporary European collectors found particularly appealing. William Barber's careful die preparation ensured that plain-edge copper specimens received the full proof treatment, with deeply mirrored fields and frosted devices that showcase every detail of the Seated Liberty figure. Cataloged as PCGS #61176.
