Description
J-935 is a copper striking with a reeded edge that pairs William Barber's seated Liberty obverse with the regular eagle reverse of the half dollar. Its obverse is William Barber's new seated Liberty of 1870, facing left with her right hand on a shield crossed by a LIBERTY scroll, an olive branch in her left hand and a pole and cap behind her, within 13 stars and above the date. Its reverse is the regular 1870 half dollar die, with the eagle and IN GOD WE TRUST above. USPatterns.com reports that these pieces were sold in complete sets. More than a dozen are known in copper. It is struck in copper with a reeded edge. USPatterns.com rates it R-6. It is also catalogued as Pollock-1041, Adams-Woodin 892 and Taxay EP741. Cataloged as PCGS #61181.
