Description

Introducing a second Liberty Head obverse for the half dollar series, J-951 features Liberty facing right wearing a plain diadem inscribed LIBERTY without the star ornamentation seen on J-939's Phrygian cap, with her hair gathered in a loose bun at the nape of her neck. The legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA encircles the bust while IN GOD WE TRUST appears on a scroll below. The reverse retains the STANDARD agricultural wreath around 50 CENTS. Struck in silver with a reeded edge, this design achieved wider distribution than most 1870 half dollar patterns, making it among the more available varieties in the series.

Rarity Notes

R-5. Approximately 25-50 examples known, one of the most available half dollar pattern varieties.
