Description

Beginning the second design group, J-933 retains the standard Seated Liberty obverse but introduces the regular-issue With Motto eagle reverse used on circulating Seated Liberty half dollars since 1866. The heraldic eagle clutches an olive branch and bundle of arrows beneath a scroll inscribed IN GOD WE TRUST, surrounded by UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination HALF DOL. This die marriage tested whether Linderman's standard silver alloy could be seamlessly paired with the familiar reverse the public already recognized, an important practical consideration for minimizing disruption during a coinage transition. Struck in silver with a reeded edge, J-933 represents the most production-ready configuration in this group.
