Description
The 1943 (D) Jefferson Nickel - Wartime Silver Alloy was struck at the Denver Mint as a nickel in the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 series. The Denver Mint struck 15,294,000 wartime silver-alloy nickels dated 1943. The obverse features Thomas Jefferson facing left and the reverse displays Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's Virginia estate. All 1943 nickels are silver alloy (35% silver, 56% copper, 9% manganese). Denver's mint evolved from a frontier assay office into one of the nation's primary coin production facilities, opening in 1906. Estimated market value ranges from $5 to $29 depending on grade and condition. Struck in 56% copper, 35% silver, 9% manganese, weighing 5 grams, 21.2 mm in diameter, with a plain edge.
