Error
Description
A D/D West variety from the Denver Mint, this 1943-D wartime silver Jefferson Nickel was documented by VarietyVista and awaits specimen submission for new color digital photographs. Die markers UVC-134 / DMR-019: Stage A with reverse and obverse at EDS; Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). The confirmed EDS designation for Stage A indicates early die state specimens have been positively identified, establishing the baseline surface condition. The westward displacement means the initial D was placed slightly east of the intended position before the corrective second strike. Struck in 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, the oversized D above Monticello was part of the large-mintmark convention used across all three wartime mint facilities.
