1943-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-008

Description

A D/D West variety from the Denver Mint, this VarietyVista-documented 1943-D wartime silver Jefferson Nickel features an extensive network of obverse die cracks documented across two stages. Die markers UVC-126 / DMR-011: Stage A with reverse at EMDS and a die crack along the back of the E of LIBERTY to rim at EMDS; Stage B with reverse at MDS, a die crack from head to rim at K-12:00 at MDS, a die crack from cheekbone south to jawbone, and a die crack from front lapel to rim; Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). The Stage B crack pattern radiating from head, cheekbone, and lapel in three directions documents widespread obverse structural failure. Struck in 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, the oversized D above Monticello distinguishes Denver's wartime silver nickel production from standard copper-nickel issues.
