1943-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-004

Description

Documented by VarietyVista, this 1943-D Denver Mint wartime silver Jefferson Nickel features Machine Damage Doubling at Stage B — an important diagnostic distinction from true hub doubling. Die markers UVC-120 / DMR-005: Stage A with reverse and obverse at EDS; Stage B with Machine Damage Doubling on reverse at EMDS and obverse at EMDS; Stage C with reverse at MDS, a die crack from head to rim at K-11:30 at MDS, and a die crack southeast across shoulder to rim at K-5:30; Stage D at LDS (unconfirmed). The two obverse die cracks at Stage C — one radiating from the top of the head and another from the shoulder — document dual-point structural failure. Struck in 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, the oversized D above Monticello identifies this as part of the wartime silver composition, produced under intense demand.
