1943-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-015

Description

A D/D West variety from the Denver Mint, this 1943-D wartime silver Jefferson Nickel was documented by VarietyVista and awaits specimen submission for new digital color photographs. Die markers UVC-133 / DMR-018 track three stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with reverse and obverse at MDS; Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). The westward displacement indicates the initial oversized D was placed slightly east of the intended position before the corrective second punch established the final location above Monticello's dome. Struck in 56% copper, 35% silver, and 9% manganese at 5.0 grams and 21.21 mm, the 1943-D features the large D mintmark convention adopted across all three wartime mint facilities to distinguish the emergency silver alloy composition from standard copper-nickel five-cent pieces during World War II.
