Description

The 2026 (S) Proof Jefferson Nickel is a proof nickel struck at the San Francisco Mint, part of the Semiquincentennial Circulating Coins 2026 series. The obverse features Thomas Jefferson in a forward-looking, naturalistic three-quarter view inspired by the 1800 Rembrandt Peale portrait, with the dual date 1776~2026, while the reverse displays Monticello, Jefferson's Virginia estate, in a refined depiction. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements prized by collectors. Designed by Jamie Franki (obverse) / Felix Schlag (reverse, modified). Struck at the San Francisco Mint, established during the California Gold Rush and now primarily producing proof and collector coins. Estimated market value is approximately $5. Struck in cupro-nickel (75% cu, 25% ni), weighing 5 grams, 21.21 mm in diameter, with a plain edge.
