Containing one-quarter troy ounce of gold in 22-karat (.9167 fine) alloy strengthened with silver and copper for durability, the $10 American Gold Eagle serves as the program's most accessible gold denomination for investors and collectors alike. The obverse carries Augustus Saint-Gaudens' iconic striding Liberty design — adapted from his celebrated 1907 double eagle — while Miley Busiek's family of eagles reverse unifies all four denominations in the Gold Eagle program. Both bullion strikes and proof versions have been produced annually since the series' 1986 debut under the Gold Bullion Coin Act, with proofs struck at the West Point Mint and bullion issues at Philadelphia or West Point.
