Liberty and Britannia Gold (2024-Date)

About the Program

In 2024 the United States Mint and Britain's Royal Mint issued coins and medals with one shared design, made by their two chief engravers, Joseph Menna and Gordon Summers. Liberty, a figure on American coins since the first years of the Mint, and Britannia, on British coins since the late 1600s, appear side by side. The U.S. Mint offered a one-ounce 24-karat high relief gold proof coin with a $100 face value, limited to 10,000, and a silver proof medal, limited to 75,000. Pre-orders opened on February 8, 2024, and shipping began in May. The Royal Mint sold its own versions.

As of October 2026 the U.S. Mint's sales tables list only the 2024 gold coin in this program.

The Finishes and Mints

There is one U.S. coin: the 2024-W proof, from West Point and marked W. The silver medal was struck at Philadelphia with a P and, as a medal, has no face value; it is listed with our medals.

Key Dates and Varieties

The only date is 2024. The Mint's weekly report showed 5,539 coins sold by July 2024, and in the CoinNews tables of the Mint's sales the figure has been 5,550 since December 2025.

How to Tell Them Apart

Obverse. Liberty, with a torch and stars, and Britannia, with a trident and a Corinthian helmet, are shown in profile, balanced against each other in the manner of a playing card. The inscriptions are LIBERTY and 2024.

Reverse. The sun rises over the Atlantic between two shores, a bristlecone pine on the western shore and an English yew on the eastern. The gold coin adds UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, LIBERTY AND BRITANNIA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, AU 24 1OZ., IN GOD WE TRUST and $100; the silver medal has only the first two.

Coin or medal. The gold coin carries $100 and a W; the 40.6 mm silver medal carries no denomination.

Is the U.S. Liberty and Britannia gold coin the same as The Royal Mint's?

No. The two mints share the design but each issued its own products. The U.S. coin is a $100 West Point proof marked W; The Royal Mint's versions are British issues sold through The Royal Mint.
