Description
The 1995 (W) Proof American Eagle Ten Dollar Gold is a proof Gold Eagle struck at the West Point Mint, part of the American Eagle Ten Dollar Gold 1986 to Date series. The West Point Mint struck 47,526 of these proofs dated 1995, by the Mint's figures. Saint-Gaudens's Liberty from the 1907 double eagle, carrying a torch and an olive branch, fills the obverse; Miley Busiek's reverse shows a male eagle with an olive branch flying above a nest where a female eagle sits with her young. As a proof issue, this coin was struck multiple times on specially prepared polished planchets using polished dies, producing mirror-like fields and frosted design elements. Struck at the West Point Mint, originally a bullion depository that became a full coin production facility, specializing in commemorative and bullion issues. Struck in 91.67% gold, 3% silver, 5.33% copper, weighing 8.48 grams, 22 mm in diameter, with a reeded edge. Cataloged as PCGS #9891.
