2014 (P) Kennedy Half Dollar - P-50DER-004T Trail Die Reverse

Description

2014P-50DER-004T is a 2014 Philadelphia Kennedy half dollar reverse with trails. TrailDies' number gives 2014P (date and mint), 50 (half dollar), DER (reverse design extension), 004 (file) and T (trails). The lines come from the stars beneath OF, from AMER in AMERICA and from the rays on the right side, heading at 350°, just west of north. Its obverse partner is also a trail die, TrailDies file 2014P-50DEO-003T. At the late die state shown, the obverse has a light vertical crack in Kennedy's cheek and the reverse a small gouge just right of the eagle's left talons. Phil Hammond found it. Trails are usually attributed to the die being polished on a rotary tool; some attribute them to die-to-hub movement.
