1999 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-053WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

Light fluting from columns 2 and 3 enters the stylobate on 1999P-1DER-053WS, while the steps below columns 5 to 8 deviate moderately, all at 190°, just off due south toward the west. The TrailDies number gives the year and mint (1999P), the cent (1), DER for the reverse, file 053 and WS for wavy steps, the bent-stair effect produced when trails cross the Memorial's staircase. On the middle-die-state coin, the reverse has a die dot above the R in PLURIBUS and a faint gouge at the left of the T in CENT; no obverse markers were noted. Patrick Gaughan found it. Polishing of the die with a rotary buff is the explanation most writers accept, and the die moving against the hub the alternative.
