1999 (P) Lincoln Memorial Cent - P-1DER-054WS Trail Die Reverse

Description

1999P-1DER-054WS has short, moderate fluting extensions from columns 2 and 3 into the stylobate, while the steps below columns 5 and 6 show only very light deviation. TrailDies gives the direction as 200°, south-southwest. The code is the 1999 Philadelphia date, the cent's 1, DER (a design extension found on the reverse), file 054, and WS for wavy steps, trails over the Memorial's stairs. The middle-die-state obverse has a die crack from Lincoln's brow to the rim between WE and TRUST; the reverse shows no markers. Patrick Gaughan found the die. A rotary tool polishing the die is the cause usually given, though some attribute the lines to the die moving against the hub.
