2014 (P) Kennedy Half Dollar - P-50DER-003T Trail Die Reverse

Description

2014P-50DER-003T is a 2014 Philadelphia Kennedy half dollar (2014P, 50) whose reverse (DER, design extension reverse) is TrailDies file 003, with T for trails. The lines leave the U and D of UNITED and run at 190°, slightly west of south, and some stars show light lines on their left sides. It is a late die state (stage C). On the obverse a die chip joins a crack running the length of Kennedy's cheek, and TrailDies also lists a crack along the bottom of the designer's initials just above the W of WE. Phil Hammond found it. Trails are commonly put down to die polishing with a rotary buff; a less common view links them to the die moving relative to the hub.

• Stage “C“, obverse is LDS – a die chip connecting to a die crack that runs the length of Kennedy’s check is seen on the obverse.
• Reverse is LDS – a die crack is seen on the bottom of the designer’s initials right above the W of WE.
