Description
2000P-5DER-001T is a 2000 Philadelphia Jefferson nickel reverse with trails. TrailDies' number lists year and mint, a 5 for the nickel, DER (its reverse design-extension tag), file 001 and a final T for trails. Light lines come from the right side of Monticello's dome, the first three letters of FIVE and MONTICELLO's T, running at 060°, east-northeast. On the stage B coin described, a small gouge sits under IN on the obverse and another under the E of E PLURIBUS UNUM on the reverse, and by this point both dies had clashed heavily. David Strzalkowski found it. Trails are widely thought to result from rotary polishing of the die surface; a smaller group sees die-against-hub movement behind them.
Die Markers
- Stage “B “, obverse is MDS – a small die gouge is seen under the word IN.
- Reverse is MDS – a die gouge is seen under the E of EPU.
