Description

ADC-5c-2000-01 This coin was produced soon after the obverse and reverse dies clashed seven times. There is an absence of any attempt to abrade the die which is usually preformed after die clashes. This is done to  minimize the marks left by such clashes. The most notable clash marks on the obverse are the V of FIVE seen protruding from Jefferson’s forehead across from the last T in TRUST, which was left by one of the clashings. Another clash left the last O of MONTICELLO protruding from the hair line across form the R of LIBERTY. The collar area and the queue along with the cloth band and bow contain numerous clash marks from Monticello. The reverse shows a series of seven individual clash marks originating from the collar and throat area of Jefferson. Also noted are the strong clash marks resembling flames above the right side of Monticello. These clash marks originate from the spacing between Jefferson’s neck and the queue in the area of the cloth band and bow. This coin was submitted by David Strzalkowski of Florida.
