1943-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-008

Description

Listed by VarietyVista under UVC-0326 and DMR-002, this 1943-D Washington Quarter RPM-008 features a D/D Southeast repunch. Three die states document progressive deterioration: Stage A is early die state but unconfirmed. Stage B shows both reverse and obverse at MDS. Stage C reveals a light die crack on the wing under UNITED, a die crack across the bust into the field in front and the queue behind, and a light die crack across the upper hair. A significant cross-listing accompanies this variety: the obverse is listed as DDO-001, meaning this die also carries doubled die characteristics. The combination of a repunched mintmark on the reverse with a doubled die obverse makes this a dual-attribution variety where both sides exhibit distinct manufacturing anomalies. The 1943-D Washington Quarter was struck during World War II in 90% silver composition, the standard alloy for dimes and quarters maintained throughout the war years before the clad transition in 1965.
