Description

S/S/S North & Northwest Die Markers: Obverse Stage A: Die scratch NNE from the top of the second 9 in the date. V-shaped die scratch from the left of the 1 in date to the vest. Arrowhead shaped die scratch, NE from the vest to the left lower serif of (he mint mark. Very small die chip (dot), in the field, south of the left lower side of the mint mark. Die clash at the throat. Strong secondary mint marks including remnants of an upper serif to the northwest. Obverse Stage B: Stage A scratches abraded away. Die chip below the mint mark larger. Die chip below the beard. Only shows secondary mint mark to the north. Obverse Stage C: Die chips still present but now oblong in shape. New die chip (dot) below the U of TRUST. Reverse Stage A: Die clash marks to the right of the E of ONE. Die clash of the mint mark below the M of UNUM. Lathe gouge connects the letters of RIBU of PLURIBUS. Reverse Stage B: Die clash below UNUM is weak. Clash marks at E abraded away. Die gouge still shows through the letters. Reverse Stage C: Die clash below UNUM reduced to a silhouette. Scratches through the letters are mushy. Reverse Stage D: Lathe gouge connects only the B and U in PLURIBUS. Die scratches N/S between the E of ONE and the T of CENT. Long die scratch SSW between the N and T of CENT and the first S in STATES. Die scratch south from the lower right side of the O in OF. Obverse Stage A:
