1910 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-002 / RPM-002

Description

Cross-referenced as FS-502, the 1910-S Lincoln wheat cent RPM-002, which Wexler numbers WRPM-002, is cataloged by VarietyVista under UVC-005 and DMR-004 and shows an S/S North repunched mintmark. Wexler writes the Cherrypickers number FS-01-1910S-502 (012.7). Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties tracks four stages on each side. Obverse stage A has swirling die scratches around the mintmark and strong die scratches running north from the rim at 4:30. In stage B a very weak die crack begins to form eastward from the rim at 9:30; in stage C it is stronger and slopes very slightly SE; in stage D it is much stronger and runs about halfway to the head. Reverse stage A has arching die scratches right of the right wheat ear, weaker in stage B. In stage C one die crack leaves the rim at 9 o'clock and runs east to the left wheat grains, and another starts at the rim at 4 o'clock and runs NW to the right wheat grains; in stage D the left crack is heavier and reaches into the grains. Lloyd Hanson submitted stages A and B, Doug Yost stage C and Paul Funaiole stage D. Wexler also lists Breen #2061, CONECA RPM #2 and Coppercoins 1910S-1MM-002. VarietyVista, which does not name a reporter, also records S/S North and FS-502. In stage A both sides are in an early die state. In stage B a die crack runs ESE from the rim at 9:30 and a light north-south die crack crosses the shoulder, in a middle state, while on the reverse die cracks run from the lower right wheat and the middle left wheat to the rim, also middle. Stage C, a late die state, is unconfirmed.
