1943 (D) Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-003

Description

1943-D WDDO-003 is a doubled die obverse on the 1943-D Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A very close counterclockwise (CCW) spread pivoting from about 9:00 appears on the lower ribbon, the 43 of the date and the RTY of LIBERTY. On the obverse, an E/W crack passes through the hair over the forehead and the hair atop the head, then continues out to the T in LIBERTY; another crack crosses the bust's base. On the reverse, a crack descends the eagle's right wing, and another starts at the S in PLURIBUS, reaches the eagle's left wing and follows it downward. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
