1943 (D) Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-005

Description

1943-D WDDO-005 is a doubled die obverse on the 1943-D Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A counterclockwise (CCW) spread pivoting from 9:00 appears on LIBERTY, the bottom of the ribbon, the date and the designer's initials, and slightly on WE. Wexler's obverse markers are curving scratches under the E in WE and a short gouge heading SW off the D in UNITED, from its bottom left corner. On the reverse, two parallel scratches head NE off the lower part of the branch end right of the mint mark, and one scratch heads NE off the lower part of the branch end left of the mint mark. Tony Russo submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
