1943 (D) Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

1943-D WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse on the 1943-D Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A counterclockwise (CCW) spread pivoting from about 6:00 appears on LIBERTY, and very slightly on the TR of TRUST and the 3 of the date. On the obverse, a short vertical gouge sits beside the 9 of the date, to the right of its top, and a short gouge runs SE from the G in GOD, at its bottom right, to the R in TRUST at its top right. On the reverse, short gouges head east off the lower parts of the R and the T in QUARTER, a scratch crosses the middle of the RTE in QUARTER, and a strong scratch passes through the lower ER of QUARTER into the lower D of DOLLAR. Jim Lafferty submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 2-O-II +V, and Crawford as CDDO-001. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
