1943-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-007

Description

A D/D East variety from the Denver Mint, this wartime 1943-D Washington Silver Quarter was documented by VarietyVista. Die markers UVC-0346 / DMR-022 track three stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with reverse and obverse at MDS; Stage C with a die crack down the eagle's right wing at LDS, a die crack across top of head to T of LIBERTY at LDS, and a die crack across the base of the bust. The three concurrent die cracks at Stage C, spanning both the reverse eagle wing and two separate obverse portrait locations, document extensive structural fatigue across both dies simultaneously. Designed by John Flanagan, struck in 90% silver and 10% copper at 6.25 grams and 24.3 mm during WWII, when silver quarters continued in production while nickel and copper cent compositions were altered for the war effort.
