1943-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-003

Description

A D/Horizontal D variety producing an unusual rotated overlap, this VarietyVista-documented 1943-D Washington Silver Quarter shows extensive Stage B die cracking across multiple design elements. Die markers UVC-0342 / DMR-018: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with a die crack down the eagle's right wing at MDS, a die gouge northeast through TER of QUARTER, a die crack across bust into queue at MDS, a die crack across the forehead, and a die crack across upper hair; Stage C with reverse at LDS and the bust crack extending into the field in front at LDS. The simultaneous cracking across wing, bust, forehead, and hair at Stage B documents widespread die fatigue arriving suddenly at mid-life. Designed by John Flanagan, struck at Denver in 90% silver and 10% copper at 6.25 grams and 24.3 mm during wartime production demands.
