2000P(SAC)-100DER-002T Trail Die Reverse

Description

Documented in the Trail Dies catalog and discovered by Tanaka Davis, the 2000P(SAC)-100DER-002T is a trail die reverse variety found on the 2000 Philadelphia Mint Sacagawea Dollar. Trail dies are a specialized variety class where a faint secondary design impression appears offset from the primary, caused during die manufacturing, installation, or trial-strike processes. Die marker documentation identifies Stage C at late die state (LDS): the obverse shows small die dots in and around the G of GOD and the first T of TRUST, while the reverse exhibits a light die scratch just to the left of the O in OF. The LDS designation for both sides indicates this specimen comes from a die pair that had accumulated significant service wear by the time these markers were documented, placing the trail die variety within the context of an aging die's final production phase. The 2000 Sacagawea Dollar, designed by Glenna Goodacre (obverse) and Thomas D. Rogers Sr. (reverse), depicts Sacagawea carrying her infant son Jean Baptiste Crapaud on the obverse and a soaring eagle on the reverse.
