1921 (S) Morgan Dollar - S-100DER-002T Trail Die Reverse

Description

1921S-100DER-002T is the second of two 1921-S Morgan dollar reverses in TrailDies' files. Its number gives the date and San Francisco mint, 100 for the dollar, DER for a reverse design extension, file 002 and T for trails. The lines start at the denticles above the end of STATES and above the O of OF, and run downward, toward the center, at about 180°. Where the companion die, 1921S-100DER-001T, shows paired lines from the denticles, this one shows a single line. A crack from the left side of the wreath through the I and T of UNITED into the denticles, and a dot between the O and L of DOLLAR, identify it at its late die state. Cal Goddard found the die. Trails are usually put down to polishing of the die, though some attribute them to die-to-hub movement.
