Description
Cross-referenced as Fivaz-Stanton FS-501, this VarietyVista-documented 1961-D Washington Silver Quarter shows a D/D Northeast displacement from the Denver Mint. Die markers UVC-0999 / DMR-006 track three stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C at LDS with a die crack down eagle's right wing, a die crack across forehead and hair, a die gouge between ER of LIBERTY, and a die gouge through the upper last 1 of the date. The FS-501 listing makes this actively sought by Cherrypickers' Guide collectors. Struck in 90% silver and 10% copper at 6.25 grams and 24.3 mm, the 1961-D was among the final silver Washington Quarters before the 1965 composition change. The extensive Stage C damage across both obverse portrait and reverse eagle documents severe late-life die fatigue.
