1961-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-004

Description

Cross-referenced as Fivaz-Stanton FS-502, this VarietyVista-documented 1961-D Washington Silver Quarter shows a D/D Northeast displacement actively sought by Cherrypickers' Guide users. Die markers UVC-0998 / DMR-005 track four stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with die crack down eagle's right wing at EMDS and obverse at EMDS; Stage C with die crack from wing tip to leaf above Q of QUARTER at LMDS, die crack in upper hair at LMDS, and die crack across bust into ribbon; Stage D at LDS (unconfirmed). The wing-to-QUARTER die crack documents structural failure spanning from the heraldic eagle to the denomination inscription. Designed by John Flanagan, struck in 90% silver and 10% copper at 6.25 grams and 24.3 mm at Denver. The 1961-D was produced just four years before the Coinage Act of 1965 ended silver quarter production.
