Cataloged by VarietyVista, this 1961 Denver Washington Silver Quarter shows simultaneous die cracking on both faces at mid-life. Die markers: UVC-0996, DMR-003. Stage A: EDS (unconfirmed). Stage B: Die crack down eagle's right wing — MDS; die crack across upper hair — MDS. Stage C: LDS (unconfirmed). The paired cracks developing simultaneously suggest both dies experienced comparable stress, reaching structural failure at approximately the same service point. John Flanagan's design was struck at Denver in 90% silver, 10% copper (6.25 g, 24.3 mm). The 1961-D represents one of the final years of silver quarter production before the Coinage Act of 1965 mandated copper-nickel clad composition, and RPMs from this pre-clad era document the manual D punch process.
