1948 (S) Roosevelt Dime - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-002

Description

1948-S WRPM-002 is a repunched mint mark on the 1948-S Roosevelt dime, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as S/S/S, West and West. The obverse is a late die state (LDS), with old N/S scratches over and under the nose. The reverse is also LDS. A die crack starts at the rim, passes through STATES's last S and continues down the flame's right side. Left of the upper olive is a NW/SE scratch. Thin N/S scratches, which Wexler links to a likely die clash, sit between the L in PLURIBUS and the lower olive. A weak NW/SE scratch crosses the E in ONE, thin scratches extend SE off the torch bottom and S off the last U in PLURIBUS, and a few N/S scratches cross ME in DIME. Wexler notes the original submitter is not named in the Bordner files; the photographed coin came from Jeff Longeuay. CONECA lists it as RPM #2. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
